Overview

This qualification reflects the role of community services worker involved in the delivery, management and coordinatiion of person-centred services to individuals, groups and communities. At this level, workers have specialised skills in community services and work autonomously within their scope under broad directions from senior management. Workers support people to make change in their lives to improve personal and social wellbeing and may also have responsibility for the supervision of other workers and volunteers. They may also undertake case management and program coordination.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 100 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.

Entry Requirements

ACOS requires that all students:

  • Are over the age of 18.
  • Complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy, Digital [LLND] assessment to demonstrate that they have the required level of LLND skills required by the course.
  • Demonstrate an interest in, knowledge of, and suitability for work in the community services sector
  • Demonstrate the level of maturity, professionalism, and responsibility required to provide effective support and services within community organisations

 

Further Information – International Students

This course is available to international students who are able to provide evidence that they:

  • Meet the English proficiency requirements with a valid IELTS Academic score of 6.0 with no score below 5.5 in any band, or PTE Academic score of 47 with no score of 39 in each section.
  • Are suitable for entry via an interview (online or in person) as part of the course selection process.
  • It is a condition of entry that upon acceptance, students provide evidence of having an Australian Student Visa [subclass 500].

 

Additional Work Placement requirements:

  • Possess a Police check (which is required for placement)
  • Possess an NDIS worker check
  • Updated Vaccination Record
  • Have a reasonable level of fitness to manage the physical demands of working in community services, which may include facilitating programs, supporting clients in various activities, and maintaining a safe and effective environment
  • Are physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy to respond appropriately, compassionately, and professionally to the diverse needs, wellbeing, and safety of clients and community members
