Overview

This qualification reflects the role of individuals in the community, home or residential care setting who work under supervision and delegation as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, following an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason.

These individuals take responsibility for their own outputs within the scope of their job role and delegation. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.

Entry Requirements

ACOS requires that all students:

  • Are over the age of 18.
  • Complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy, Digital [LLND] assessment to demonstrate that they have the required level of LLND skills required by the course.
  • Demonstrating an interest in, knowledge of, and suitability for work in the individual support sector
  • Demonstrate the level of maturity, empathy, and responsibility required to provide quality care and support to individuals in need.

 

Further Information – International Students

This course is available to international students who are able to provide evidence that they:

  • Meet the English proficiency requirements with a valid IELTS Academic score of 6.0 with no score below 5.5 in any band, or PTE Academic score of 47 with no score of 39 in each section.
  • Are suitable for entry via an interview (online or in person) as part of the course selection process.
  • It is a condition of entry that upon acceptance, students provide evidence of having an Australian Student Visa [subclass 500].

 

Additional Work Placement requirements:

  • Possess a Police check (which is required for placement)
  • Possess an NDIS worker check
  • Updated Vaccination Record
  • Have a reasonable level of fitness to cope with the physical demands of providing personal care and support, including assisting with mobility, lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
  • Are physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy to respond appropriately to the needs, comfort, and wellbeing of clients
