Overview

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to recognise and respond to life-threatening emergencies in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.

This unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide an emergency response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Entry Requirements

ACOS requires that all students:

  • Are over the age of 18
  • Have access to internet, webcam, email and MS Word
  • Have language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills sufficient to read and interpret first aid guidelines and emergency procedures, complete incident and injury reports, follow instructions, and communicate effectively with children, families, emergency services, and colleagues during emergency situations, as required in HLTAID010 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support.
  • Have a reasonable level of physical fitness to perform practical first aid tasks, including kneeling, bending, lifting, moving casualties where safe to do so, and performing CPR and other emergency response procedures that may be required during training and assessment activities.
